Smarthome Announces Software for Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 for its Insteon-based Home Control Networking Products

Smarthome Timer Software Enables Homeowners to Easily Control Room Environments and Living Experiences From a PC

October 14, 2005

IRVINE, Calif. - Smarthome Inc., the authority in electronic home improvement and automation, today announced the availability of the Smarthome Timer Software for PCs running Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005. The software enables users to improve the home entertainment experience by establishing preset room environments from their computers.

Homeowners using the Smarthome Timer Software will be able to control all future Insteon-enabled home control products—such as their Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system, television, stereo, lights and security system—from a Media Center PC with the software installed. The Timer Software is also pre-programmable and interfaces with Smarthome’s Insteon technology, using radio frequency and powerline communications. In addition to interfacing with the Media Center PC, Insteon allows the Timer Software to work independently of it, further increasing overall functionality.

The Smarthome Timer Software allows users to easily program and manage room scenes. When homeowners are ready to watch a movie, for example, they select the “home theater” scene and automatically their Xbox 360 turns on, the lights dim, the surround sound comes on, the TV screen lowers and the popcorn starts popping.

Or, a “morning” scene can program lights to come on slowly to wake the homeowners gradually, turn the sprinklers on for a sunrise watering, start the coffee percolating so it is hot and fresh when the homeowners step out of the shower, turn music on while they are getting ready and turn the security alarm on before they head out the door.

“Smarthome has brought the insights of its 15 years of working out real-world electronic home improvement solutions to the Insteon technology, and to the unique features of the Smarthome Timer Software.,” said Duke Chadsey, Vice President of Product Development. “We are pleased that Microsoft is able to take advantage of this expertise and add our home control technologies to the Media Center Edition 2005, making users experiences as affordable, easy and convenient as possible.”

“Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 continues to provide cutting-edge integrated digital entertainment experiences to a growing number of customers around the world,” said Dave Mendlen, director of Windows Consumer Marketing at Microsoft Corp. “We’re thrilled that a company such as Smarthome has made optimal use of the power of Media Center Edition 2005 to deliver increased comfort and convenience to customers who want to expand their systems to accommodate home control automation.”

The Smarthome Timer Software will be available in December and can be purchased at or by calling 800-SMARTHOME (800-762-7846).
