SmartLabs Insteon-Compatible RemoteLinc Wireless Remote Control Wins Electronic House Product of the Year Award

New Handheld Remote Gives Users Control of Hardwired and Battery Operated Insteon Devices

August 01, 2007

IRVINE, Calif. - SmartLabs, Inc.™, the world’s leading authority in home automation and control, has won the Electronic House Product of the Year Award for its newly introduced Insteon-compatible RemoteLinc wireless remote control. The success of the RemoteLinc is key to the development of the connected home as it clearly demonstrates that wireless RF and powerline devices can mutually co-exist and benefit each other to create the ultimate reliability solution for the connected home eco-system.

“The release of RemoteLinc reaffirms SmartLabs’ commitment to the benefits of a dual mesh Insteon network which leverages both powerline and RF simulcast communications and creates a truly low cost, highly reliable, family of devices in the home,” said Dan Cregg, chief technology officer, SmartLabs.

The power of the Insteon technology is its flexibility in allowing development of product and solutions for consumers that can be either RF, powerline or both thus adding to the Insteon networks simplicity, and affordability. This innovative strategy has allowed Insteon to gather more than 40% market share, since its debut two years ago according to West Technology Research Solutions.

“With the release of the Insteon RemoteLinc, SmartLabs continues to fulfill the vision for the Insteon dual mesh (powerline and RF) that was outlined with the initial Insteon release in 2005,” said George West of West Technology Research Solutions. “The Insteon RemoteLinc extends the Insteon portfolio by providing untethered operation, enabled by the wireless component of the Insteon protocol. We expect that this is only the first of many RF enabled products coming to market utilizing Insteon technology.”

The RemoteLinc is but another addition to the Insteon-compatible product community which today has over 1400 developers and 100 manufacturers ranging from home lighting, security, heating/air conditioning, and appliances.

Electronic House magazine editors selected the RemoteLinc as its Product of the Year for its technical innovation, simplicity to use and overall value.

The RemoteLinc wireless remote control is now available for $49.99 at www.smarthome.com. For more information about the award winning Insteon home control networking technology, please visit www.insteon.com.

2007 New Southern Home Showcases Insteon Lighting Control at Southeast Building Conference

Latest “Green” Technology Features Include Affordable System To Keep Electricity Costs Down

July 12, 2007

IRVINE, Calif. - SmartLabs, Inc. announces that its Insteon wireless home control technology has been selected to control the lighting features of the 10,200-square-foot 2007 New Southern Home, a highlight of the 29th annual Southeast Building Conference (SEBC), July 12-14 at the Orange County Convention Center.

The 2007 New Southern Home is a showcase home featuring the design, luxury and technology which will set the pace for new home standards and the lifestyle of the South. Featuring the latest and most innovative products available in the marketplace, the 2007 New Southern Home is built for the South’s extreme weather and incorporates “green” technology that will cut energy costs now and for the future.

With energy costs for lighting alone accounting for more than 20 percent of a typical home’s electricity costs, SmartLabs’ Insteon lighting control system was chosen for the model home for its ability to reduce energy usage — at an affordable price. Keypads and controllers allow homeowners to remotely turn on or off all lights in a house and change their intensity. The same controllers allow them to turn on selected lights so they never use more lighting than they need.

“The 2007 New Southern Home has 56 Insteon keypads and 200 Insteon light switches to manage lighting throughout the home’s living spaces, inside and out,” said Steve Lee, national training manager, for SmartLabs.

In addition to its ability to reduce energy costs, the Insteon system comes with lower upfront costs — a factor that led it to be chosen by James M. Krantz Construction Corporation, the designer and builder of the 2007 New Southern Home.

“We looked at the other lighting systems on the market and, after talking with our electrician, chose Insteon because of its lower cost and easy set-up,” said Roland Krantz, vice president, Krantz Construction. “Plus, SmartLabs’ user-friendly technology to control and save energy matches the goals for the 2007 show home.” Ultimately, the mission of the 2007 New Southern Home, the 19th built for the Southeast Building Conference, is two-fold: to celebrate innovative and creative architecture, building and interior design, and to educate the homebuilding industry and consumers.

The 2007 New Southern Show home is open Thursday, July 12 through Sunday, July 15. Transportation will be provided every half hour outside Hall B during SEBC hours and entry for conference attendees is free. For more information, visit www.newsouthernhome.com.

New Insteon-enabled Web Based Home Automation Controller from Universal Devices Leverages Internet for Simple Set Up, Monitoring and Remote Control of Insteon Network

May 24, 2007

IRVINE, Calif. - SmartLabs, Inc. announces the new Insteon home automation controller from Universal Devices Inc. The Insteon-enabled home automation controller, called the ISY-26, enables consumers to control the Insteon wireless home control network without special software or a dedicated computer required to run the network.

Users can monitor and control Insteon devices either at home or away using any computer, Microsoft Media Center or Pocket PC. To access, users simply bring up a Java-enabled browser and type in the controller’s URL address. The ISY-26 enables notifications and alarms to be sent via SMS or email allowing users to effortlessly keep an eye on their home.

“Universal Devices’ controller leverages the Internet to allow homeowners to simply control their lighting, appliances and other security applications using their computer of choice,” said Ken Fairbanks, general manager, SmartLabs. “Getting an email or SMS letting you know the front door opened, that you left lights on or there is water in the basement is pretty powerful.”

To set up, users simply plug the ISY-26 into any computer and use the controller’s intuitive user interface to connect up to 256 Insteon-enabled devices, set timed events and create multi-triggered scenes using its simple drag and drop method.

“With Insteon and ISY-26, we’ve revolutionized the realm of home automation,” said Orly Kohanim, president, Universal Devices. “Now everyone can afford a Smart Home while reaping the full benefits of a total home automation solution.”
