SmartLabs Introduces SwitchLinc - Insteon 220V Outdoor On / Off Switch Kit: Helps Consumers Decrease Energy Consumption and Save Money

July 17, 2008

IRVINE, Calif. - SmartLabs, Inc. announces the release of SwitchLinc - Insteon 220V Outdoor On / Off Switch Kit, a switch that will control high current appliances up to 30 Amps, as part of an Insteon home automation network. Controlling appliances such as such as an electric water heater, pool pump or range hood, you can significantly limit the amount of energy being consumed, saving resources and saving you money. For example, most pool pump timers have only a single on time and off time during the day; setting the pool pump on for more cycles and shorter durations will reduce energy consumption while maintaining cleanliness.

"We're excited about the introduction of another green energy saving product that will allow consumers to cut energy consumption of high current appliances. Controlling electric water heater usage will significantly decrease energy use and pool pump control can reduce energy consumption up to 50%" says Laurie Maroni, Vice President of Marketing at SmartLabs.

"Insteon products save energy, time & money and our customers love the reliability & ease of use of our products". This kit comes conveniently pre-assembled in a weatherproof housing built for outdoor applications. Simply connect the wires and mount the box. You can turn an appliance on or off locally, just as you would a SwitchLinc - Insteon Dimmer Switch. Alternatively, any Insteon-compatible device can be used for remote control. It will also work with existing X10 products, providing an upgrade path to an Insteon network. Insteon home automation technology provides customized control and communication of lighting and appliances throughout the interior and exterior of a home. Insteon products let you create a network of controlled devices and scenes that make life convenient, fun and energy efficient.

2009 Solar Decathlon Competitor Cornell University to Feature Insteon as Their Energy-Efficient Home Automation Solution

July 15, 2008

IRVINE, Calif. - SmartLabs, Inc. announces that Cornell University has chosen Insteon® home automation technology as an integral piece of their home build in the 2009 Solar Decathlon at the National Mall in Washington, DC, fall of 2009.

The competition is comprised of twenty University based teams, each given $100,000 to showcase the design, build and operation of a home completely powered by solar energy. Insteon was selected by Dr. Bruce R. Land, Cornell University Faculty Advisor, who said they “recognized the Insteon family of products as the right technology to help automate and control our solar powered home…where responding to the environment and controlling the house accordingly is critical, Insteon provides a simple and reliable solution for helping meet our home control challenges.” Smarthome representative Steve Lee felt the competition will “show the complete depth of Insteon, by using it as a full communication protocol through the management of lighting, appliances, contact closures, thermostats and IR control. We are building a seamless integration of Insteon products with other home systems towards a common goal of total energy efficiency.” Realizing the potential energy savings and convenience home automation can provide, Cornell is looking to add other Insteon-compatible control systems.

Over the next year, Cornell’s team will work with Smarthome to build a power efficient, reliable, affordable and convenient solution. The partnership should provide an example of how the home of the future will use Insteon automation to effectively manage resources and save energy.
