Insteon Automation Systems and Security

August 2, 2013

IRVINE, Calif. - Recently there have been a number of articles written about the potential for ‘smart homes’ to get hacked. Insteon wants its customers and partners to know that it is committed to ensuring a safe and secure experience for everyone. To that end, we take reports of security vulnerabilities seriously and are dedicated to working to remediate them.

The Insteon Hub has authentication and is as secure as other comparable products in the home.  If a hacker is able to breach the home network, it is up to individual devices to provide the next line of defense. This defense includes customers setting up authentication (strong username and password combinations) and keeping their home IP addresses private. We recommend that customers do not post links or shortcuts to devices in their home (including cameras, televisions, game consoles and home automation systems) on the Internet.

Clearly, with the advancement of technology, new benefits and risks often surround the adoption of products. We believe the benefit and convenience of home automation technology outweigh the risks. Having said that, we will continue to strive to be the best in our industry – this means offering our customers the best products with the highest level of security and protection available, and continuous improvement of those products.

Sincerely,
Joe Dada, CEO of Insteon & Joe Gerber, President & COO, Insteon

SmartLabs Design Insteon Lighting Control enters Security market with DSC Home Compatibility

March 28, 2007

IRVINE, Calif. -  SmartLabs, Inc. announces that SmartLabs Design Insteon-enabled lighting control system will be presented by Digital Security Controls (DSC) as part of a home security, home automation and home entertainment bundle for security dealers and installers.

The DSC Home (www.dsc.com) bundle includes DSC’s PowerSeries control panel and LCD keypad, motion detector, thermostat, surveillance camera, SmartLabs Design lighting control system with Insteon technology, and multi-room home entertainment and multimedia leveraging Microsoft Windows XP Media Center, LifeWare digital entertainment and automation software from Exceptional Innovation and the HP Digital Entertainment Center and High Definition LCD TV.

“It makes perfect sense to introduce DSC Home at ISC West with this year’s focus on the ‘Smarthome’,” said Ken Fairbanks, vice president of business development, SmartLabs, an industry leader in home automation and control. “Security dealers have an enormous opportunity to add home automation and control to their security solutions and we’re pleased to be working with industry leader DSC.”

“We view this market segment as a beachhead for the underlying Insteon wireless home control networking technology,” continued Fairbanks. “Any device embedded with the Insteon technology can be added to the network without pulling additional wires; offering a recurring revenue stream and up-sell opportunities for the security industry.”

SmartLabs Design Insteon-enabled lighting control products will be demonstrated in the DSC booth 24001-25001 at the Sands Convention and Expo Center in Las Vegas March 28-30, 2007.
