Insteon Announces Remote-Controlled, Networked LED Bulb for Recessed Lighting

Shining a Light on Form and Function, Connected PAR38 Bulb Saves Energy, Lasts Longer than Other Bulbs and Can Be Controlled Via Smartphone

February 19, 2014

IRVINE, Calif. - Insteon, creators of the best-selling home automation and control technology, today announced the Insteon® LED Bulb for Recessed Lights, the latest addition in a line of award-winning, energy-efficient LED bulbs. Designed with the energy-conscious, connected home enthusiast in mind, the PAR38 recessed can light easily connects to the full range of Insteon products, allowing consumers to create a customized wireless network that doesn’t require replacing a light switch.

The Insteon PAR38 LED bulb is:

  • Remote Controlled: Insteon makes it easy to control your light bulb using wall switches, keypads, wireless mini remotes, and even your smartphone – when used with the Insteon Hub
  • Energy Efficient: Using a mere 12W of electricity, every LED bulb is as bright as a 60W incandescent light while using just 13% the electricity, conserving energy and saving money
  • Less Waste: Insteon’s LED bulbs last approximately 52,000 hours – it would take over 50 traditional light bulbs to match the lifespan of just one Insteon LED bulb
  • Dimmable: The move to energy-efficient bulbs like CFLs and LEDs has generally meant that lights can no longer dim, but Insteon’s LED bulb was designed for dimming, allowing the user to fully brighten and dim
  • Customizable: The Insteon LED bulbs communicate wirelessly, enabling users to customize the On Level and Ramp Rate of every LED bulb and even create custom lighting scenes
    • On Level – Sometimes you just don't need the full brightness of a light bulb; instead, customize the preset brightness to which your LED bulb turns on from 1% to 100% - your choice
    • Ramp Rate – Allows the user to decide how long it takes for the LED bulb to turn on or off with durations of instant to eight minutes
    • Scenes – Scenes let users link together all of your lights (and appliances) to create dramatic moods or efficient groupings based on the user’s needs. Select and change scenes with the touch of a button

  • Wireless, Dual-Band Technology: Every Insteon LED bulb uses dual-band Insteon technology, taking full advantage of both the existing power lines in your home and the airwaves throughout for the most reliable communication. No matter how remote the light fixture, inside or outside the home, Insteon signals will reach it.

With its simple installation, setup process and trustworthy communication, Insteon has become the industry’s premier remote control networking technology. Plug-in devices and in-wall switches make it possible to add wireless control to any light or appliance in a home or business without having to hire a contractor. By making every networked device talk to each other via radio frequencies and existing electrical wiring, Insteon eliminates the need for custom wiring and ensures that every device is always connected.

The bulb retails for $49.99 and can be purchased online at Smarthome.com, Amazon.com, as well as other retailers. For more information on the line of Insteon bulbs, visit www.insteon.com.

Smarthome™ Introduces New OutletLinc™ Dimmer - Insteon® Remote Control Dimmer Outlet (Dual-Band)

June 27, 2011

IRVINE, Calif. - Smarthome announces the release of the new OutletLinc Dimmer - Insteon Remote Control Dimmer Outlet (Dual-Band) - the world's first remote controllable dimmable receptacle. The product is a great alternative to the popular OutletLinc Relay - Insteon Remote Control On/Off Outlet, which has been a popular seller since its launch in 2007.

The new product is a full-featured dimmer receptacle that can be remotely controlled by powerline and radio frequency (RF) Insteon controllers, and also doubles as an Access Point, relaying RF and powerline signals to other Insteon-compatible devices. The dual-band technology not only increases the reliability of the dimmer, but for the user's entire Insteon network.

The simple-to-use OutletLinc Dimmer has advanced features like an adjustable ramp rate that slowly brings the lamp on, a preset dim level that stores your preferred choice of 32 brightness levels when turning the lamp on initially, as well as load sense, so you can still use the lamp's built-in switch to turn the light on and off. It's made to be installed in place of any wall receptacle and controls incandescent loads up to 300 Watts. The OutletLinc Dimmer also features a standard (always on) outlet rated up to 15 Amps.

"The new OutletLinc Dual-Band Dimmer Outlet is the world's first remote controllable, dimmable outlet," commented Laurie Maroni, Vice President of Marketing at Smarthome. "Our patent pending design allows a user to replace any outlet in their home and instantly turn it into a dimmer. OutletLinc is controllable by any Insteon controller such as a wall keypad or even the user's smartphone."

Safety features include:

  • Tamper resistant outlets
  • Over-heating protection
  • Dimmer Key

The OutletLinc Insteon Dual-Band Remote Dimmer Outlet, which passed stringent certification and beta tests, is currently available for pre-order, starting at $59.99 at Smarthome.com, and is expected to begin shipping at the end of July.

Insteon Allows for Control with Any Universal Remote

SmartLabs introduces IRLinc, allowing instant control of lighting and appliances.

January 10, 2008

IRVINE, Calif. - The Insteon camp is growing.SmartLabs just announced the IRLinc, a plug-in interface that enables control of Insteon-compatible lighting and other appliances using almost any universal remote.

That’s a nice perk. As much as we all love new toys, some are very addicted to their existing remotes. It’s comparable to the groove in the couch—it takes time to achieve that kind of magic!

Hide the sensor in your A/V gear and use your remote to zap Insteon signals via your home’s existing electrical wires. The IRLinc can control over 400 different compatible devices.

SmartLabs currently manufacturers over 170 Insteon-compatible products. The IRLinc is available for pre-order from Smarthome for $99.99.

IRVINE, Calif. - SmartLabs, Inc. announces the new Insteon home automation controller from Universal Devices Inc. The Insteon-enabled home automation controller, called the ISY-26, enables consumers to control the Insteon wireless home control network without special software or a dedicated computer required to run the network.

Users can monitor and control Insteon devices either at home or away using any computer, Microsoft Media Center or Pocket PC. To access, users simply bring up a Java-enabled browser and type in the controller’s URL address. The ISY-26 enables notifications and alarms to be sent via SMS or email allowing users to effortlessly keep an eye on their home.

“Universal Devices’ controller leverages the Internet to allow homeowners to simply control their lighting, appliances and other security applications using their computer of choice,” said Ken Fairbanks, general manager, SmartLabs. “Getting an email or SMS letting you know the front door opened, that you left lights on or there is water in the basement is pretty powerful.”

To set up, users simply plug the ISY-26 into any computer and use the controller’s intuitive user interface to connect up to 256 Insteon-enabled devices, set timed events and create multi-triggered scenes using its simple drag and drop method.

“With Insteon and ISY-26, we’ve revolutionized the realm of home automation,” said Orly Kohanim, president, Universal Devices. “Now everyone can afford a Smart Home while reaping the full benefits of a total home automation solution.”
