Insteon® Ships World’s First Remote Control Networked LED Bulb

$29.99 Bulb Offers Dimmable Remote Control with iOS and Android Apps

June 19, 2012

IRVINE, Calif. - Insteon®, manufacturers of the best-selling, most reliable home automation technology, today introduced the Insteon LED Bulb 8 Watt (60W), the world’s first-to-market networked remote control dimmable LED light bulb. Featuring Insteon’s award-winning technology in a sleek design, the Insteon LED Bulb is a technological innovation sure to brighten both the connected home and personal technology industries alike.

“For years, home automation has controlled light fixtures with plug-in lamp modules, wire-in switches and keypads. But, until now, no one has controlled the bulb itself. It’s exciting to be the first to introduce a new product to the world,” said Joe Dada, chief executive officer, Insteon.

The Insteon LED Bulb features simple setup, intuitive control and easy linking to any Insteon controller, such as a handheld remote. When paired with the free Insteon app, the SmartLinc Hub turns an iOS/Android smartphone or tablet into a fully functioning remote control of the bulb or an entire Insteon network. The bulb is fully dimmable and can be added to any number of scenes to create custom lighting at the touch of a button.

The Insteon LED Bulb contains Insteon’s patented dual-band communication technology, the most reliable, efficient communication system available. Just like other Insteon devices, the bulb acts as a network signal repeater and sends signals over both radio frequencies (RF) and a home’s existing wires (powerline).

The Insteon LED Bulb retails for $29.99. For more information or to watch a demonstration video, visit www.insteon.com.

“The market is very excited to be getting an LED bulb with remote control built in, at a price that is actually below the cost of most standard LED bulbs. It’s like getting remote control for free,” said Joe Gerber, president, Insteon.

The Insteon LED Bulb is the latest addition to the Insteon product family, built upon the best-selling SmartLinc Hub. The Insteon product family ranges from wall switches, plug-in modules and  keypads to thermostats and motion sensors.

With its simple installation and setup process and trustworthy communication, Insteon has become the industry’s premier remote control networking technology. Plug-in modules and in-wall switches make it possible to add wireless control to any appliance in a home or business without having to hire a contractor. By making every networked device talk to each other via radio frequencies and existing electrical wiring, Insteon eliminates the need for custom wiring.

GridPoint Acquires Lixar’s Energy Business, Enhances Smart Grid Software Platform and Establishes Canadian Presence

Lixar’s Solutions Provide Sophisticated User Interfaces and Support Multiple Protocols and Devices

June 29, 2009

IRVINE, Calif. - GridPoint, Inc., a leading smart grid company, today announced that it has acquired Lixar’s energy business, an Ottawa company providing energy management solutions that offer sophisticated user interfaces and support multiple communications protocols and devices. The acquisition enables GridPoint to enhance its enterprise-class software and establish a Canadian presence.

“We welcome Lixar’s talented software developers, whose work has been very well-received by the market, and look forward to collaborating to serve the needs of our utility customers,” said Peter L. Corsell, CEO, GridPoint.

Lixar’s energy efficiency and load management solutions easily integrate with a utility’s grid management systems and support a number of protocols, including Insteon, Modbus, Wi-Fi, ZigBee, Z-Wave and X10, to control a wide variety of home automation and customer premise devices.

“We are delighted to join the team and believe we have a perfect fit of product and culture,” said Richard Oh, Managing Partner, Lixar.

Lixar provides utilities and their customers with highly sophisticated and flexible user interfaces that can be easily customized to meet the individual needs of both the utility and end user. The interface’s online personality helps educate and guide users via voice and text about how to use the system and achieve their energy goals and also facilitates communication with the utility. Other unique features include the ability to update energy profiles and control real-time events through smart phones, including iPhone and BlackBerry devices. Additionally, conservation tips and energy efficiency advice are provided via streaming video to help the consumer manage energy use.

Lixar also offers a transformer monitoring solution that monitors temperature, voltage, power and current and provides data-rich reporting about location and status. It alerts both the utility and its customer to a problem and automatically takes action, such as disabling the transformer to prevent damage, based on pre-programmed rules.

“Lixar’s software will enable GridPoint to integrate enhanced features into our platform, in addition to offering solutions to the Canadian market,” said Michael J. Carlson, who leads GridPoint’s Smart Grid Operations and its new Ottawa offices.

GridPoint recently released GridPoint Platform 3.0 and announced that Hometown Connections, the utility services subsidiary of the American Public Power Association (APPA), selected GridPoint as its exclusive smart grid software platform provider to public power companies. GridPoint also intends to continue many of the IP equipment and system integrator partnerships that have been developed by Lixar to distribute its technology throughout North America.

“GridPoint is a truly visionary company and is poised to become the leader in the smart grid software space,” said Bill Syrros, CEO, Lixar.

GridPoint Platform 3.0, a standards-based open platform, allows utilities to progressively integrate and customize smart grid solutions, including energy efficiency, load management, renewable integration, storage management and electric vehicle management. The platform delivers these solutions through the integration of distributed energy resources, including plug-in electric vehicles, solar panels, advanced storage technologies, and household devices such as thermostats, electric water heaters and pool pumps.

Smarthome Products Featured in Museum of Science and Industry's Smart Home: Green + Wired Exhibit

March 24, 2009

IRVINE, Calif. - "Chicago's Greenest Home" is back, as Chicago's Museum of Science and Industry opened the newly redesigned Smart Home: Green + Wired, Powered by ComEd. The exhibit, which features home automation, surveillance and energy saving products from Smarthome, will run through January 3, 2010.

The 2,500-square-foot, fully functioning "green" home features smart technologies that focus on energy efficiency and home monitoring, low-VOC paints, recycled furnishings and eco-friendly energy sources-including photovoltaic film to collect solar energy and coming summer 2009, a wind turbine to harness one of the windy city's most abundant resources. Museum guests are able to take guided tours through the home every day and learn about the big and small ways that they can live a greener life, and a more tech-savvy one as well.

Among the smart technologies within the home are Insteon Motion Sensors, which are being used to automatically turn off lights and appliances when no one is in a room, a Panasonic Wireless Network Camera to monitor activities in the nursery through a "Cribcast", and Kill-a-Watt Energy Monitors so exhibit visitors can see how much energy appliances are actually using.

"We're very happy to be a part of this Museum of Science and Industry exhibit," said Smarthome Vice President of Marketing, Laurie Maroni. "Exhibitions like this really open the eyes of visitors when they can observe and interact with technologies that are shaping our future. SmartLabs Releases World's First Insteon-Compatible Outlet

Provides Built-in, Whole-House Custom Remote Control

January 08, 2008

IRVINE, Calif. - As part of its growing line of over 170 Insteon-compatible products, SmartLabs, Inc. announces the launch of its new OutletLinc, the world's first Insteon-compatible electrical outlet. This Decora-style receptacle replaces a standard outlet for easy, Insteon control of almost any plug-in light or appliance.

Controllable from any Insteon-compatible wired or wireless controller, the Insteon Remote-Control Outlet inserts easily into any X10 network. OutletLinc is a duplex receptacle with one always-on outlet and one controlled outlet, which can be added to lighting scenes in seconds. The controlled outlet's 15-amp relay is powerful enough to control most appliances. Available in white, ivory, almond, and black, OutletLinc blends in seamlessly with an Insteon network and any home decor.

"Plug-in modules like the LampLinc are great for remotely controlling devices that might need to be moved, but for an exposed outlet, most people prefer the clean lines of a standard outlet," said Laurie Maroni, SmartLabs VP, Marketing. "The OutletLinc wires in like a standard electrical receptacle, but since the top outlet is controlled by Insteon, people can control pretty much any plug-in device remotely, without connecting a bulky plug-in module."

The Insteon Remote-Control Outlet is available at Smarthome.com starting at $45.99.
