This one comes straight from our CEO. When Ken’s high-voltage controller for his hot tub’s heat pump died, he reached out to our head of technical support, Steve Lee.
Steve explained how to use a Micro On/Off Module to turn 220V devices (such as a hot tub heater) on and off with a scene and voice control. Here are the steps:
- Purchase a weather tight enclosure and relays that can handle the load (in Ken’s case, it was 30A).
- In water-proof enclosure, install either of the below:
- Double pole, double throw 240V relay with 120V coil voltage.
- Alternatively, you can use 2x 120V relays with 120V coil voltage.
- Next, in the same enclosure, install the Micro On/Off Module to control the coil voltage of the relay(s).
- Add the Micro On/Off Module to the Director app.
- Create a scene with the Micro/On Off Module and a button on an Insteon keypad or mini-remote.
You can then even add voice control using a routine and the Alexa Skill in the Amazon app or Google Assistant.
If you are not comfortable with the process listed in a Bright Idea’s solution, please do not attempt to do it yourself and contact an appropriate installer.
