Automatically Turn Lights On and Off with Sensors

 

You can use Insteon sensors to automatically control devices. The steps in this article detail how to configure a Motion Sensor to automatically turn a lamp on and off. You can use the same steps to control lights and appliances with other Insteon sensors.

iPhone, iPad and iPod touch

Step 1

Navigate to Settings by swiping from the right to open the drawer.

Tap Scenes

Tap Create a Scene

Step 4

Give your scene a name and select the devices you want to include. In this example, we've chosen a Dimmer Module and a Motion Sensor. When ready, tap Next.

Step 5

Configure the role for each device in the scene by tapping the Responder/Controller/Both button. Controller devices will activate a scene, responder devices will be activated in the scene and devices configured as both will both activate the scene and respond to it's activation.

For the Motion Sensor to control the Dimmer Module, Motion Sensor should be set to Controller and Dimmer Module should be set to Responder.

You can also configure what a device will do when the scene is activated by tapping the green button in the right of each row.

Dimmable Devices support both On Level and Ramp Rate.

On Level configures how bright the light will be when the scene is activated.

Ramp Rate configures how quickly the light will turn on, off or dim.

Step 7

When ready, tap Done.

If your scene includes battery-powered devices like a Motion Sensor or Door/Window Sensor, you will be prompted to interact with that device's set button.

Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the scene creation.
